EASTLAND MALL'S RISING SUN ICONS - SAVED!

In 2013, The Eastland Mall's Rising Sun Icons were saved by the Eastland Areas Strategy Team (E.A.S.T.) along with its team headed by Martique Lorray, The City of Charlotte, Environmental Holdings Group (EHG) Demolition,  JE Dunn Construction and Rite Lite Sign Company

For over 30 years, the Eastland Mall was a unique landmark and hub of activity for all of Charlotte, NC. With its ice-skating rink and community celebrations, it brought people together in a way that most malls do not. Mounted on the mall were three illuminated signs 13 feet in diameter bearing the Eastland Mall's logo. When the defunct mall was scheduled for demolition in 2013, the Eastland Mall's Rising Sun Icons were saved by the Eastland Areas Strategy Team (E.A.S.T.) along with its team headed by Martique Lorray, The City of Charlotte, Environmental Holdings Group (EHG) Demolition,  JE Dunn Construction and Rite Lite Sign Company.

The next phase is to re-purpose these icons as integrated components of a dynamic public art space in east Charlotte. E.A.S.T. is proud to preserve the icons and breathe new life into the historic “Rising Suns” with their potent symbology of “a new day dawning”. One of the icons has been deemed a Charlotte Historic Landmark.
